Earthquake 20 minutes ago

20 minutes ago,I just sat in front of the computer desk and suddenly I felt the whole body was shaking.I could confirm that was an earthquake and depend on my past experience,it was quite horrible.

Now I had some official source claiming about this earthquake. It happened at SOUTHERN SUMATRA, INDONESIA.It was only 475 km (295 miles) SSW of KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia.I think a few of people in Kuala Lumpur had got the feel of it.Here’s the detail from USGS(U.S Geography Survey):

Earthquake map

earthquake090930It’s Magnitude 7.9 that must have led to a huge destroy.Pray for the people there!

Update(1)-September 30th,2009:It’s reviewed to Magnitude 7.6 and there’s another Magnitude 5.5 earthquake which happened 20 minutes later than the first one.Unfortunately, the unconfirmed news said that more than 100 people was dead because of the earthquake.

The clear map in Google Maps:

Update(2)-October 1st,2009:The local officer in Southern Sumatra reported that thousands of houses were pulled down whilst a huge number of people was buried alive.Currently they only found around 100 dead bodies, however, the number will be confirmed to increase soon as the rescue team is working on it.

Besides, another earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter scale happened in Jambi province of Indonesia in this early morning.Up to now, there’s no injured report yet.

Why won’t I use DiGi Broadband?

I know that DiGi Broadband performs quite well according to the feedbacks from existing users(at least the actual speed is above the said standard). However,I have no plans to use it yet because DiGi Broadband has the following weakness:

1.High monthly charge with limits on usage

DiGi broadband packages

I always watch online TV and download files,so Discover and Explore plan will not suitable to me because of the low usage limits. However,Extreme plan could cost me RM188 monthly, compared to TM Streamyx 4M combo which only costs RM160 monthly.Furthermore, the top plan just provides 20GB monthly and after this the download speed would be cut at 256Kbps.I don’t think I could control my usage within this volume.

2.Stability

Because DiGi Broadband is using 3G technology,it’s wireless. Thus, the strength of signal affects the speed and latency. As we all know, many factors may affect the signal, such as weather, structure of rooms, coverage etc. and it would make the fluctuations on speeds, even a super high latency.I’m sure that will be a nightmare for a online gamer.

3.High cost to get a 3G router to share the connection

Currently I have one desktop, one laptop and one smart phone which always access the Internet at the same time. That means if I want to subscribe DiGi Broadband,I have to buy a 3G router which is able to let me share the connection to all devices.I find that a 3G router recently is still pricing quite high(around RM250-400).

I refuse DiGi Broadband because of the above 3 points.I believe a great number of people have the same worries just like me.I wish DiGi could see it and figure out some solutions as that will be the only way to grow the service.

DiGi 3G goes to voice service?

Yesterday I got a piece of surprising news from Lowyat.net that some DiGi users had successfully made a 3G video call to other network users.

As we all know that DiGi is the only mobile service provider in Malaysia which only applies 3G technology on data service,a.k.a DiGi Broadband.I also heard that DiGi will open the 3G infrastructure to voice service in weeks. So perhaps in some areas or for some existing users,DiGi is doing some secret testing there recently. However, there’s no official news to express on this stuff yet.

Besides, some DiGi users did some bandwidth tests on their iPhone and found an amazing result-1.72Mbps for downstream.

DiGi 3G

The result is definitely impressive. But if DiGi could do some more enhancements to reduce the crazy latency and increase the upload speed(>512Kbps),it could surely attract more and more people for its broadband service.Let’s pray for it!

Rankings of the Global Financial Centers(September Release)

In the past one year, the whole world was shaking because of the financial recession. It can’t be denied that the recession hurts the developed countries(e.g. United States,United Kingdom) much more than the developing countries(e.g. China).Again,it may change the structure of the world. When the leaders of the developed countries were scratching heads to try their best getting a solution in order to put the economic back to the track,on the other hands, the leaders from another side had found something that could stabilize and even keep boosting the economic into a positive trend. If you had read the Global Financial Centers Index(GFCI) released in March,2009,I believe you won’t be surprised by the big changes on the rankings of the latest September GFCI as what I said just now.

GFCI(sep.09)According to the comparison of March Report and September Report, you could see that the huge progress on those Asian cities(Shanghai,Beijing,Taipei etc.) which were doing some innovations on their old-style economic system;on the contrast, some European/U.S. cities(Boston,Dublin,Glasgow etc.) were leaving the top list and going down to the second group with a bad setback.

I think that shows the direction of develpments of the cuurent world and tells us that no one can be the big boss forever.

My blog was hacked again

One hour ago,my blog was hacked and left some messages there.

My blog was hacked again I did nothing wrong in these days, but some people look like quite interesting to hack my blog in order to interrupt my common blogging life.Unfortunately, that has been the second time within half of this year and it’s so hard to prevent it.

Now I only hope my blog won’t be stayed on the hackers’ eyes at any time.Pity me!
