U Broadband

I almost forget U Mobile-the first mobile service provider in Malaysia which only provides 3G network and offers 1 second per block of calling charges.Today I find that U Mobile is also introducing its fresh-renovated broadband product:U Broadband, another wireless broadband service based on 3G network.

U Broadband

Compared to DiGi Broadband, the tariffs of U Broadband seems to be much friendly to the customers. However,I have no comment whether it could serve with a good performance just as it indicates. In fact,I heard quite a number of U Mobile users complaining about the bad customer service and coverage.

Maybe cheap is not the only concern. :)

Cost of Internet access in the world

Bill Shrink did a simple research on cost of Internet access in the world referring to ITIF and Internet World Stats Broadband Penetration and finally he makes up a colorful map.

cost of internet access The average speeds in Japan and Korea are 61mbps and 46mbps and thus they stand in No.1 and No.2 respectively. The prices per month for 1mbps are unbelievably low:US$0.27(RM0.98) in Japan and US$0.45(RM1.53) in Korea.United States of America,as the 3rd largest country in the world having more than 300 million of citizens, develops the broadband service quite well and lists in the 15th of the rankings. The average speed there is 4.8mbps whereas the cost for 1mbps monthly is only US$3.33(RM11.32).

I just make it compare to some popular broadband services in Malaysia.I think it will surprise a lot of people.

Package:4Mbps2.4Mbps2Mbps
Average price for 1mbps monthly:US$11.76/RM40US$24.39/RM83US$27.65/RM94

In average, the broadband service bills at around US$21.26(RM72) for every megabit per second which is 79 times of the cost in Japan and 6.4 times of the cost in USA.Are we richer than them?

Profit Margin & EPS

The latest financial report for the half of current year shows the unaudited revenue is RM33,239,000 whilst the profit is RM9,178,000,which are 12% and 8.7% higher than the figures of corresponding period in the proceeding year. The profit margin is 27.61% which indicates the company controlling the costs well and enhancing the performances of work in order to be efficient enough competing with other competitors.

The company also issued 2% of RM0.01 first interim dividend in the last quarter.I believe the company will create more benefits for the shareholders.

According to the latest audited EPS(RM0.0241) and weighted average PE(16.7) of the industry, the fair value of the share should be around RM0.40.However,up to today, the share price is understated at RM0.255.Therefore,this share has a great potential to boost and present its real value.

Rent it or Buy it?

In these days I take some time on considering of renting or buying a property and now I initially form a picture in my mind.Let’s say I’m going to either rent or buy the same condominium valued at RM130,000 currently. In my area, most of these apartments have 3 bedrooms and 2 bathroom. It will be big enough for a 2-people family to stay in.

Property

Buy

If the owner is willing to sell it at the market price RM130,000,I need to pay more than this amount because I have to process the Sales and Purchases Agreement,Transfer of the title, legal fees and then Stamp Duty which may be up to RM6,000.In Malaysia,we have to pay at least 10% down payment. In this case, that means at least RM13,000.So I have to prepare RM19,000(RM13,000+RM6,000) of cash at first.According to current bank loan policy, the rate of Home loan is around BLR-2%.After some calculation,I could get the monthly installment for the following 20 years is RM680-RM700.Of course, the more I pay on the down payment, the less I pay for the installments.

After 20 years,I own the property worth RM130,000 theoretically and only need to pay monthly maintenance fee.

Rental

As I know the rental fee of that kind of apartments is RM500-600.So I just pick up the higher one RM600 because the rental fee should be raised possibly every 5 years.Well,it is RM100 lower than the monthly installment. However, the total money I spend on rental in 20 years will be RM144,000(RM600*12*20) and I leave nothing after all.The worse thing is I must keep on rent a place to stay.(Be noted that the rental fee at that time may be raised to another high.)

To sum up,I prefer to buy a property instead of rental as rental is just like putting money into a bottomless hole. How do you think?

Switch to Nod32

I’m a Kaspersky fan.I have used its products for more than 10 years.Even though the products are always quite expensive,I still keep using it because I believe it could provide the best protection for my computers. It definitely did the job well in my computers in the past several years. However, recently after I upgraded to the latest Kaspersky Internet Security 2010,I found sometimes normal Internet connections were blocked and the software crashed with Windows Vista in many times. So I decided to try Nod32,another top antivirus software in the world.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2010

ESET Nod 32 Smart Security

It seems that ESET Nod32 is a bit more expensive than Kaspersky.Well,if a little extra could make some improvements in terms of performance and compatibility,I’m willing to pay it.The fact didn’t make me regret.Nod32 starts up faster than Kaspersky and occupies less system resources.

So I think I will only try Kaspersky again only it could be much slim.
