Malaysia Budget 2010

Today ministry of Finance in Malaysia will submit the budget for the coming 2010.The Prime Minister Dato’ Najib is also the minister of Finance.I think he had to pay attention to this budget because Malaysia was just suffered by the economic downturn seriously and now difficultly walking out of it.The government ran some mini budgets during the past several month to support country’s economic by adding deficit. So the forthcoming budget is at the crossroad that may push the economic up or pull it down to the jungle.

Najib

In front of the new budget,Najib must give out the ways for two main points at the same time:

  • To keep supporting on business activities and relieving financial pressures of citizens by issuing policies that benefit both companies and consumers
  • To cut the deficit into a proper range

I will post the hot points tonight when the budget released to the public.

Malaysian Broadband

Today I read from TheStar that Information, Communications, Culture and Arts Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim directs the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission(MCMC) to investigate why the cost on IT service is high.

I feel curious that the high price on IT service(on broadband services) has exists for more than 8 years and now the government just mentioned the issue. For example, the high end broadband service for home-Streamyx 4M combo will cost people RM160(US$48) monthly, but it only provides 4Mbps for downlink and 512Kbps for uplink. All right,we won’t go far.We only pick up our neighbor-Singapore’s broadband services as the references.

 SingtelStarhub
Downlink:15Mbps8Mbps
Uplink:1Mbps768Kbps
Monthly fee:S$59.90(RM149/US$44)S$59.92(RM150/US$44)
Remarks:Free IPTV and movie channel for 12 monthsboost up to 100Mbps on partner’s sites

I pay at almost equivalent amount, but get only 1/4 speed.I hope the Malaysian government could know why soon and take quick actions to eliminate it.Well,I don’t bet on it much.

Times Higher Education-QS World University Rankings 2009

Thanks QS and Times Higher Education! The rankings is like the past that some universities are going up and some universities are dropping down.

QS Times world university ranking 2009All top 10 universities come from UK and US.I have to say that it never surprises me as the good education systems and methods deserve such an honor.Actually the latest Nobel Prizes approve it too.According to the rankings,University of Hong Kong, seems to be the best university of China, lists at 24th in the world while Tsinghua and Peking University-the best two universities in Mainland China sit at the 49th and 52nd respectively.I just wonder when the universities in Mainland China can enter into the Top 10 group.

My focus

Two stuff are in my list of focusing now.

  • When will Maxis be relisted in Bursa Malaysia?I’m interested in making some investments there and willing to gain some gold from it.
  • When will I get Streamyx upgrade to 4Mbps?I don’t think I should be so hard to get that upgrade. However, the fact is it costs a lot of my time till now and nothing happened.
  • When will the people in Padang,Indonesia get recovery both physically and mentally?

I just wish every could be fine.

Rankings of the Global Financial Centers

On behalf of City of London,Z/Yen Group works on the Global Financial Centers Index(GFCI) for 3 years. The index publishes every six months,is dynamic, tracking the changing perceptions of cities as financial centres on an ongoing basis.Meanwhile,if refers to a lot of existing rankings and does some surveys on senior industry figures. Thus, the index is quite objective and complete. Here’s the report for March 2009.

GFCI(Mar09) In the rankings, you can see that only two Asian cities-Hong Kong and Singapore are there and the developed countries are still controlling the world’s economy. However,I know that in September’s report, the rankings have been changed a lot.I believe that indicates the trend of developments in the world.Let’s check it out later.
