Hearing of buying new trains from Transport Department as well as KTM Berhad,finally we could see the true face of the new trains.

The new train is made by Hyundai Rotem  with Mitsubishi design and will be used on Kuala Lumpur-Ipoh route of ETS(Express Train Service) initially.The designed max. speed of this train is 160km/hour,however,it will only be running at 140km/hour maximum in the current route,spending 1 hour and 55 minutes for the single trip.

The new train is a new hope for a lot of people.At least we now know that KTM is doing something improving their services.I just wonder know when they want to increase more trains for existing commuter services and when the ETS will be extended to Penang/Singapore.

I think for all I mentioned,I still need to wait for longer time.

I  saw a lot of articles about Google Wave,a creative tool which helps to make some communications to friends easier than ever before.It’s still on the progress of beta stage,so it could only be tried upon invitation.

D-link DSL2542B equips with Broadcom 96338 chipset which is quite powerful and stable working at a fluctuating environment.However,it can be perfect without a nice firmware which instructs the rules properly.Flash a new firmware will never be a tough job.

Before we visit the modem,we have to download the latest firmware first.The firmware provided here is released on December 2008 and only for D-link DSL 2542B.You can download it here and unzip it later.Now I’m going to teach you how to complete it quickly and correctly.

(1) Type 192.168.1.1 into Internet Explorer to login into the modem control panel(default login ID and password is ‘admin‘).Please be noted to use IE here as I found Firefox and Opera will lead to some unknown issue during the upgrade.By the way,if you changed modem IP/login ID/password before,please type in the right one to get access to the modem.

(2) Go to the following directory into the left sidebar:Management ->Update Software.

Please Press ‘Browse…’ under Tools–Update Software-Step 3(which is in Chinese in the above picture) and choose the file named ‘DSL-2542B-SE_1.10_12162008_cfe_fs_kernel’ in ‘Image’ folder which is in your unzipped file,then press ‘Update Software’ button.

Since now you should wait for around 1-2 mins to let the modem complete the rest procedures.After an automatic reboot,your modem will be ready to use.

That is the whole thing for flashing firmware in D-link DSL2542B.The only thing you should remember is to follow the steps carefully.All right,you could try it yourself now.

Nearly 1 month ago,I started premium Singapore VPN service and it works quite fine.Many Malaysian users subscribe the service for a lower latency to play foreign online games which may locate in Singapore or China.However,as I only could provide a limited bandwidth on this Singapore server,I never allow heavy downloading.

I applied Tomato firmware since I started to use Linksys WRT54GL.It is customized from the original firmware and designed to be more functional and stable.

The latest version Tomato 1.25 was released several days ago.It fixed one major problem on the previous Tomato 1.24.The changes since Tomato 1.23 are:

Version 1.25

• Fixed WL MAC address may not be set properly. This seems to have caused various connectivity problems, including a possibility of getting locked out.

Version 1.24

• Fixed static IP entry was ignored if it exceeded a certain length even though the GUI allowed it.
• Fixed Device List may not display Static IP hostnames.
• miniupnpd replaces the older UPnP service, adds NAT-PMP support (must enable).
• Added options for DDNS refresh time and do not perform an ‘NVRAM commit’ for DynDNS in the GUI.
• Added ID for WTR54GS, WZR-G108 – thanks to BaoWeiQuan; WR100 – thanks to Hovsep.
• Various fixes, WL500GP, WL520GU, WBR2G54 – thanks to Fedor.
• Added options for more SSH/telnet connect limits in Admin:Access.
• Added option to use WAN port for LAN in Basic:network.
• Reworked logout. Tested with IE, FF, Safari, Opera, Chrome.
