Maxis is the first carrier in Malaysia using 1800Mhz 4G LTE network officially which iPhone 5(Model A1429) could run on that frequency. However, users need to update the carrier setting to enable 4G LTE function. It’s only some simple clicks to go and the only thing you need to ensure is you have a Maxis SIM in your device.
Currently, some Maxis iPhone 5 users have received update for enabling 4G LTE service on Maxis network. It has been reported on MalaysianWireless in this morning.Since iPhone 5 is not supporting 2600Mhz 4G LTE network which is initially applied on Malaysia’s 4G LTE network, the current carrier update from Maxis implies that Maxis has been supporting 1800Mhz 4G LTE network from now on.
Up to now Maxis hasn’t yet released any official announcement for the coverage of 1800Mhz 4G LTE network. However,we may see the overall coverage map from OpenSignal map.
Months ago,U Mobile started to share with Maxis for its infrastructure in order to expand its 3G network to nationwide.Since then, the 3G coverage on U Mobile in West Malaysia came to be good.Well, recently it started the expansion in East Malaysia and the major cities and towns there had 3G service already.
U Mobile’s 3G network supports up to 42Mbps DC-HSPA+ .The collaboration with Maxis will let U Mobile expand faster and save more capital.I believe it will also benefit on deploying 4G LTE network which U Mobile maybe will start the service in the year.
Anyway,as a user of U Mobile,I feel some service downgrade in terms of speed and downtime.I hope they could improve the service continuously with the growth of the number of users and don’t let me down.
After 2 years of trials on 4G LTE network,Maxis announced that their 4G LTE network working on 2.6Ghz spectrum had put into service from last midnight.
Maxis 4G LTE provides 2-5 times faster speed than current 3G network, speeds up to 75Mbps and typical average speeds of 10Mbps to 30Mbps depending on the conditions.Currently only some parts of Klang Valley in the areas of Cyberjaya, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Damansara Utama, Desa Sri Hartamas, Bandar Puchong Jaya and Bandar Sunway are covered.Other areas that have partial coverage are SS2, Taman Paramount, Section 17 and 19 in Petaling Jaya, Plaza Damansara, Bandar Kinrara and Taman Wawasan in Puchong.
You can sign up Maxis Wireless Broadband plans of RM88 and above get the LTE modem at only RM400 to enjoy super speeds on the Maxis 4G LTE network. You can check out for more details at Maxis centers in KLCC or Taman Tun Dr. Ismail.Of course,if you have a 4G LTE mobile phone which also supports 2.6Ghz spectrum, you could ride on the fastest mobile wireless network right away.
Now I’m wondering which telco will be the following player on 4G LTE in Malaysia.
