4G spectrum had been allocated by MCMC in Malaysia

The telecommunication industry regulator in Malaysia,MCMC(the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Comission) announced last night that they had assigned 2600MHz(2.6GHz) to 8 companies for deploying 4G LTE(Long Term Evolution) wireless technology.

The 8 companies are Celcom Axiata Bhd, DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd, Maxis Broadband Sdn Bhd, Packet One Networks (M) Sdn Bhd, Puncak Semangat Sdn Bhd, REDtone Marketing Sdn Bhd, U Mobile Sdn Bhd and YTL Communications Sdn Bhd.

From the aforementioned list, you could find that Celcom.DiGi,Maxis and U Mobile are the existing mobile telcos;P1 and YTL Communications(YES 4G) are running Wimax networks;REDtone is a MVNO(Mobile Virtual Network Operator) player currenting riding on Celcom network;Puncak Semangat is a new face in the industry, but the boss is well-known local billionaire, the richest Bumiputra corporate figure – Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary.

MCMC wants the existing telcos to take their experiences to build up reliable 4G networks while the new players may seek some innovative and create ways to compete with others.Well, the idea is good, but applying into Malaysia,I think it’s not good because Malaysia only has 28 million population.8 companies have to divide a small cake into tiny pieces and so perhaps no one could get full at last.

Anyway, they may go to consolidate the service later or share the infrastructures to improve the financial performance. At this moment,we could just wait for several months to see how they will make it done nicely.

Motorola RAZR M 4G & Droid RAZR HD

Yesterday was really a busy day for those mobile companies.Motorola also chose this day for their new product release.

In the event called “Motorola. On Display”, two new devices caught my eye.The first one is RAZR M 4G LTE.

It has a 4.3 inch qHD(960*480) Super AMOLED Advanced screen with Gorilla Glass. It also backs with the popular Kevlar cover and very slim screen borders. As a mid range smart phone,it works with Qualcomm S4 dual-core 1.5 Ghz Processor,800 mega pixels main camera(1080P video),8GB internal memory with extended memory slot,NFC etc.Well,it also supports GSM / UMTS / HSPA+,reducing the troubles of roaming.

Droid RAZR HD has a larger screen(4.7 inch,720P) and a bigger battery etc.It also works on 4G network and probably comes to the market by the end of year.

If you wanna know more about these two,you could take some time to watch the last night’s video. That should give all you wanna know.

The best news from the event is Motorola will try their best to help their Android phones releasing after 2011 to upgrade to Android 4.1(Jelly Bean) by the end of this year.If some devices can’t get the upgrade because of the limitations of hardware,Motorola will offer $100 discount to the customers for buying a new Motorola phone. It sounds quite nice, but I don’t know it’s only for US or for worldwide.Well, let’s wait for it.

New iPad will land in Malaysia on this Friday

After a month of waiting,Apple’s fans in Malaysia finally could get the new iPad in hand on this Friday(20 April 2012).

The prices in Ringgit haven’t been released yet. However, according to Apple’s tradition, they should be labeled from RM1599 for 4G LTE version and in the meantime,iPad 2 will reduce the price too.

Machines-the authorized Apple store in Malaysia just released the prices for the new iPads:

  • iPad 16GB WiFi RM1,499
  • iPad 32GB WiFi RM1,799
  • iPad 64GB WiFi RM2,099
  • iPad 16GB WiFi+4G RM1,899
  • iPad 32GB WiFi+4G RM2,199
  • iPad 64GB WiFi+4G RM2,499

Obviously,it’s a bit expensive than iPad 2.But according to some third party’s findings, the material costs for the new iPad is definitely higher than iPad 2,I think we could understand why Apple tags a higher price on the new ones.

There are some people waiting outside Machines over night. They all want to get the new iPad once it opens to sell tomorrow morning.

How many of you are waiting to get one? Will there be another long queue outside the authorized stores?Let’s see!

NEW iPad

Yes,it’s just simply called as ‘the new iPad’,not ‘iPad 3′ or ‘iPad HD’.There are some great improvements, but some Apple fans may feel disappointed as the changes are not so significant.

Retina Display will be one of the greatest improvements. As an iPad 2 user,I’m never satisfied with the display quality on iPad 2,I think many iPad 2 users think it in the same way.Well, now on the new iPad,four times more pixels means much sharper texts and colorful pictures can be shown on the screen. The experience of watching HD movie or playing HD games on iPad will also raise to another level.

The Tomorrow Network from DiGi

DiGi recently announced that they are doing some major upgrade work throughout the whole country to solve the network congestion issues and extend their high speed broadband coverage. Also,by upgrading the network,DiGi will have a LTE(a sort of 4G technology) ready and can be working as soon as they get 4G license in Malaysia.DiGi named that upgraded network as ‘The Tomorrow Network’.

DiGi also promises that after the upgrade, more than 95% of the most populated area in Malaysia will have high speed broadband access(EDGE&3G).

DiGi informs that the upgrade will be site-by-site and so some area may have service interruptions during the work and normally it will be at off-peak hour.DiGi users can check when you will be affected by this link.

There are many friends around me using DiGi’s service as it’s known to offer the most affordable phone plans in Malaysia.Well, the complaints about the service quality of DiGi(expecially on rate of drop-calls,slow 3G speed etc.) never stop.

I wish with the deployments of the new network,DiGi could get better reputation and really be the smart choice of their consumers.

Rumor again about the next iPhone

Recently all Apple fans have been busily seeking sources to get more information about next iPhone as the past generations of iPhone were released in Q3 which is only few months left.

However,Apple is very good at keeping mouths shut and it seems that we could only guess by ourselves or listen to some rumors. The hottest rumor is quite similar as what I talked weeks ago that the next iPhone is ‘iPhone4s’ which is the minor upgrade version of iPhone 4.

Of course,it should be better than the current one,so a faster processor will be applied-the best guess is using A5 which is also using on current iPad2.Also,Apple will upgrade the camera in order to provide better shooting quality.Previously,I heard that iPhone4s could support 4G connection such as Wimax or LTE.However,I read some articles showing that currently all Wimax/LTE chips are not good at power savings and that definitely will lower the battery hours. So iPhone4s perhaps supports HSPA+ that could reach 42Mbps peak as the result of balancing between battery hour and speed.

AppleInsider has their own analysis about next iPhone,I think some points are the same as what I thought.Well, all will only be approved when the next iPhone is officially introduced.Stay tuned!
