Facebook “Home” and HTC First

Yesterday Facebook held up an event for Android platform. Many people guessed that Mark Zuckerberg would release a Facebook phone and they were curious how would that phone differneciate with other smartphones. Now we know that Zuckerburger is not really building a Facebook phone with sort of Facebook OS,he’s making a phone with Facebook-centric app(launcher).

Facebook is cooperating with HTC to push out this middle range Android phone named HTC First, optimizing Facebook “Home” working on it seamlessly as the default launcher.Facebook chooses to make this happen in Android platform because that’s the one with open source and highly customizable compared to iOS and WP8.

The main concept of Facebook “Home” is to focus on social status which has been the most important part of life for people enjoying the connections with family and friends. When you unlock your phone, you will immediately get the latest Facebook status and respond to that by simple clicks.

Yesterday, some dozens of Samsung Galaxy S3 users in Poland reported that they started to receive OTA about Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update.

A few hours after this news came out,Samsung officially listed out the first batch of Android phones which could get Jelly Bean.

  • Galaxy S III
  • Galaxy S II
  • Galaxy S II LTE
  • Galaxy Note
  • Galaxy S Advance
  • Galaxy Chat
  • Galaxy Ace 2
  • Galaxy Beam
  • Galaxy Ace Plus
  • Galaxy Mini 2
  • Galaxy S Duos

Do you have one of these phones? If yes, please be patient to queue for Jelly Bean.

Motorola RAZR M 4G & Droid RAZR HD

Yesterday was really a busy day for those mobile companies.Motorola also chose this day for their new product release.

In the event called “Motorola. On Display”, two new devices caught my eye.The first one is RAZR M 4G LTE.

It has a 4.3 inch qHD(960*480) Super AMOLED Advanced screen with Gorilla Glass. It also backs with the popular Kevlar cover and very slim screen borders. As a mid range smart phone,it works with Qualcomm S4 dual-core 1.5 Ghz Processor,800 mega pixels main camera(1080P video),8GB internal memory with extended memory slot,NFC etc.Well,it also supports GSM / UMTS / HSPA+,reducing the troubles of roaming.

Droid RAZR HD has a larger screen(4.7 inch,720P) and a bigger battery etc.It also works on 4G network and probably comes to the market by the end of year.

If you wanna know more about these two,you could take some time to watch the last night’s video. That should give all you wanna know.

The best news from the event is Motorola will try their best to help their Android phones releasing after 2011 to upgrade to Android 4.1(Jelly Bean) by the end of this year.If some devices can’t get the upgrade because of the limitations of hardware,Motorola will offer $100 discount to the customers for buying a new Motorola phone. It sounds quite nice, but I don’t know it’s only for US or for worldwide.Well, let’s wait for it.

Samsung Mobile Unpacked 2012

I believe lots of digital geeks were waiting in front of the screens over night to see what Samsung would like to present to the world.Well, several products covering different categories from Samsung were introduced in the event last night.Of course, many of us were only willing to get the eyes on the new Gallaxy Note II.

The specs on this phone are really amazing.

  • 5.5 inch 720P HD Super AMOLED Screen
  • 9.4mm body thickness
  • 800Mega Pixel rear camera
  • 3100mAh battery
  • Samsung Exynos Quad-core 1.6Ghz Processor
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
  • Improved S Pen

According to the specs released,we could be sure that the new Galaxy Note II will have a even better performance than the current flagship model-Galaxy S III.Samsung will offer 2 options:grey and white and they should be available before end of this year.

In the same event,Samsung also shows Galaxy camera,ATIV S,ATIV Tab and Series 5 and 7 are Windows 8 Tablet.

CM 9 stable is available to all supported devices

The well-known Android modded team CyanogenMod announced that the latest version CM 9 stable is starting to rolling out slowly, for all supported devices including Samsung Galaxy S series,Galaxy Nexus,Nexus S,SE Xperia Neo etc.

More firmwares will be listed up after completing the processes on the server.

Meanwhile,as Android 4.1 Jelly Bean had been released by Google weeks ago,CyanogenMod will start to focus mainly on CM 10 which will be based on Jelly Bean, perhaps only keeping bug fixes work on CM 9.

So if you have a device without official support on Android 4.0,you may try to get CM 9 if your device is supported. From my experience,it could run quite well in most of time.Cheers!

Google Nexus 7 Tablet

This is another hotspot on the first day of Google I/O 2012,however,it’s been a rumor for quite long time.Google never stop to find a product which could beat Amazon Kindle Fire or Apple iPad and they hope Nexus 7 will be that one.

It has a 7″ 1280*800 HD display screen with Scratch-resistant Corning Glass,1.2MP front camera,of course,it’s got Android Beam(NFC).It weighs at 340g,lighter than iPad and most  of tablets. The Tegra 3 Quad core processor empowers the device with great graphic performances while playing games, watching HD videos etc.The 1GB RAM also helps the device to run smoothly with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and with 8GB/16GB internal memory, you could make it your portable entertainment device easily.

However,Nexus 7 has no back camera and 3G/4G support which let me think it may not be so good when we use it on the move.I have to admit that only $199 for 8GB version is impressive, but I prefer to have a device supporting 3G/4G and perhaps $100 higher than this one.How about you?

If you have interest on it,you could pre-order it at Google Play(free $25 Google Play credit). It’s only available in US now and will start to deliver from mid of July.More countries will be in the delivery list later.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

On the first day of Google I/O 2012,many things were caught by the tech geeks.Well,Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is definitely one of the hotspots.

Previously it was said to be Android 5.0,however,it’s now known as Android 4.1,so we could treat it as an improved version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The key points on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean include:

  • Fast and smooth performance

Google realized that previous Android systems always can’t get the same smooth performance as iPhone does and they want to change the fact. They set up Project Butter trying to improve the performance to get iPhone-like experience. Finally we could see the outcome now.

Google claims that it could help to improve the battery life too.

  • Richer notifications

It could let you get more controls through notifications.Of course, you now could reply a call directly from the notification. Continue reading
