iPhone will be officially on China market

After months of negotiations,China Unicom finally signed the agreement with Apple to solely sell iPhone in China market officially from this coming September.

iPhone White

In fact,it is not a piece of news which can surprise people as many rumors came out during the past months. However, the result may not be so great. The disclosed information says the first batch of iPhone China version will remain almost all functions except WIFI.Thus,if you want to buy that iPhone,I think you’d better to sign a data plan first.

I also think some potential users will feel disappointed on cutting down WIFI in this iPhone China version.Instead, they will go to buy it from other sources.

China Unicom, you should be smarter a bit.At least, you should know that China Telecom is planning to introduce Palm Pre in China market and Lenovo oPhone will come to China Mobile as well. The competitions will be drastic!

New cable in Asia

Eight Asian carriers signed a memorandum of understanding for a new regional club cable, the Asia Pacific Gateway (APG) which will finally be capable to 4Tbps.

The 4Tbs subsea system will land at nine locations between Singapore and Japan and would go into service in 2011, NTT Communications said.

As well as NTT Com, the cable has investment from China Telecom, China Unicom, Chunghwa Telecom, KT, PLDT, Telekom Malaysia and VNPT.This new cable will increase the potential capabilities of bandwidth between major Asian countries and this planned cable also avoids the earthquake-prone and cable-heavy area to Taiwan’s south, where six cables were cut in an earthquake on Boxing Day 2006, slowing regional internet bandwidth to a crawl.

In the news,it indicates that the popular cable in Asia-APCN2 has only been utilized its 15% of potential capacity, but a rapid growth may be foreseen in a near future as high speed broadband is going to be introduced everywhere in Asia.

I always blame that Telekom Malaysia lacks international bandwidth, but I think it’s hard to be improved immediately. However, now I believe that TM could get a quick enhancement on its international bandwidth once if it does want to do so as there are still lots of available bandwidths in APCN2.

We need this new cable because it will be more stable and powerful than current ones. Will it then benefit the consumers of Telekom Malaysia?Strongly doubtful!

Bandwidth will get improved

Since Internet’s booming, the total bandwidth over the world is short. However, with the downturn of the economy, the situation goes to be a bit better and meanwhile many telecoms invest on undersea cables which could improve the bandwidth substantively.

From the source of telecomasia.net,3 mains cables are working on the progress:

The TPE cable, which is already in service and has design capacity of 5Tbps, runs directly between north China and the US west coast. It is owned by China Telecom, Taiwan’s Chungwa Telecom, Korea Telecom, and Verizon.

AAG, a club cable with planned 2Tbs capacity whose 17 investors include Telekom Malaysia, AT&T, Telstra, is expected to launch in July this year.

The Google-backed Unity cable, in which Pacnet is also an investor, is due to start service early in 2010.

After all are done,I think we could surf the foreign network with the local access speed.I wish it could be realized as soon as possible.

3G in China

In the beginning of Year 2009,China government released three 3G licenses to main mobile operators-China Mobile,China Unicom and China Telecom.

The battles among the main mobile operators

China Unicom will give out its 3G network with WCDMA technology which is a mature and popular technology widely used in Europe.Nokia,Sony Ericsson and Samsung have a very entire production line and so many Chinese people could get WCDMA cell phones in local shops. Thus,China Unicom has quite a number of potential users and that is a very good advantage.Except that,I think WCDMA cell phones will have most choices in the market and this will attract a lot of youngsters. Therefore,China Unicom surely has no excuse to lose this battle.

China Telecom is a new guy in mobile communication industry. It’s got the property of CDMA network from China Unicom and so the 3G network(CDMA2000) will upgrade from it.The technology is adopted in Japan,Korea and USA.Lesser mobile phone manufactories make it lesser competitive to WCDMA network. However, not like others buying and setting up new devices,China Telecom will only need to upgrade its current network so that it will be quite economical and could expand its network much faster. Therefore,China Telecom will stay in between the battle and get a balance most probably.

China Mobile, finally, can’t be so optimistic. It uses China-local-developed TD-SCDMA technology.Till now,I still heard it is not as stable as those two I mentioned just now.Unfortunately, there’s no foreign mobile giant jumping into the product market yet. This bad situation will certainly reduce the buying demands from consumers because of lack of choices of products. Some more,if the network really doesn’t perform well, that will be a dead end in the battle. Then it will lose the position of leadership in current market too.

The three operators will totally spend RMB 40 billion of investments (US$5.88 billion) in 3 years.China Mobile will send out a bill of RMB 5.88 billion(US$ 0.86 billion) before the end of this year in order to build up 60,000 base stations with 70% coverage of main cities over the country whereas China Unicom and China Telecom will spend RMB 3 billion(US$ 0.44 billion) each to run their 3G networks.

Of course, all things are quite hard to predict and here a right strategy will turn the winning rates among the three gamers.Only one thing known is that the battle will be extremely drastic.

I’m looking forward to seeing a wonderful competition in the near future.
