Chinese New Year 2009(2)

This is the second wave for Chinese New Year 2009.I think a lot of Chinese over the world are counting down the date to the most important holiday-a reunion and a new start.

Although I can’t stay beside my family in the past several years,I still kept sending out my Chinese New Year card to them and to express my best wishes to them. They always arrange a family reunion dinner that gathering all the close relatives.I believe it’s the real meaning for Chinese New Year.

Happiness is the melody for Chinese New Year.Actually during the holiday, you could hear a lot of bright festive songs along the streets and avenues.Last time,I’d shared with you a nice song and now I get another good one. It’s produced by a group of new popular singers(from Astro) in Malaysia.Let’s have a look.

Do you like it?Yes,I am.I think more and more festive songs will be introduced in the coming days. We’re waiting for a wonderful holiday-just say no to mess and say yes to gladness. :)

Midwinter

Today is Midwinter which is the last one of the solar terms in lunar calendar.Frankly speaking,my family never celebrate this day as perhaps we are not so traditional and in fact we’re always quite busy on our own business. The first time I noticed this holiday was the first year in Malaysia. At that time,my girlfriend’s whole family dined together which was like a scene of Chinese New Year.

Midwinter

In Chinese history, from Han Dynasty(BC 220),people started to celebrate Midwinter as a festival. At that time, all business stopped and people visited their friends and families by complimenting some find foods away in order to have a peaceful and happy day. From Tang Dynasty(AD 618),it evolved to be a day to worship ancestor.I heard till now there are still some places having this tradition.

Speak of foods in Midwinter, some distinctions exists between different areas in China. In the north(Eg. Beijing),typically they eat wonton during the holiday;in Jiangnan(Eg. Shanghai),we traditionally eat dumplings with sugar/pork/sweetened bean paste/sesame/Osmanthus fragrans etc.Of course,a bottle of rice wine and a dish of traditional pastry are the best combination too. Thus we can see that in former time,Shanghainese were very liquorish, especially for an important date.

For me,I think it is a good chance to gather the whole family to share fun and sadness,to have a close communication with each other,to link the family to be tighter and tighter. To all Chinese, have a great holiday! :)

Chinese New Year 2009(1)

Though we still have about 40 days to Chinese New Year 2009,we could get some holiday feelings now.Last week,I walked into one Popular Bookstore. In the CD counter there, many Chinese New Year CDs have been publishing and recommending. In Malaysia here, lots of Chinese broadcasting stations have their own New Year albums featuring with DJs and stars.

The above MV is made by 988.Almost all famous DJs are involved and playing in their roles.I like it very much because it shows a bright reunion which is namely the essence of Chinese New Year.

Share with your guys.I believe that whatever your race or your belief is,happiness belongs to everyone.
