FroYo,where are you?

If you’re having an Android phone,I bet you know what is FroYo.It is the latest version of Android mobile operating system, the version number is 2.2(codename: Froyo-aka ‘Frozen Yogurt’).It was officially introduced in Google I/O 2 weeks ago and said to push to Google Nexus One in few weeks. It has some major improvements and so many Android phone users are looking forward to getting it as soon as possible.

The highlights of the changes are in the following part:

  1. New User Features
  2. New Platform Technologies

  3. New Developer Services

You can get the details from Android official website.

One week ago, there was a beta version of FroYo sending to some group of Google Nexus One users.Upon the feedbacks from them,it seems quite a number of bugs still stay in that beta version although the users feel satisfied with great movements in this new one.

Anyway,I hope someday in this month,I could get an OTA notification once I wake up. :)

Tips on using Google Nexus One

I have played Google Nexus One for 2 days. It’s my very first time touching Android phone and so I have to learn how to fully utilize the functions it has.And with the default settings of Nexus One,the battery is not strong enough for my play.It took about 4 hours to complete charging the power.

I started syncing my Google contact with the phone contact as well as the calendar and then searching more useful widgets to install.I also tested the sensitivity of the touch screen by typing several short messages and accessing some websites by the default browser. The overall is quite satisfying. But after about 10 hours,it went out of battery. That is the terrible result. If I couldn’t save more energy on the phone in other ways,I have to buy spare battery to support my daily use.

Well, there are always some ways.I tried to stop the automatic sync option, close down GPS,WIFI,install APNdroid to switch APN,get Advanced Task killer to terminate some unnecessary tasks running at the background and choose 2G only network, the duration extends for more than 5 times than before.

So if you have Google Nexus One or other Android phone and feel that the battery is too weak, please try some similar ways to reduce the consumption.

Good luck for your guys!

Nexus One in hand

My Google Nexus One finally is in my hands. It takes one week flying from USA to Malaysia.Actually it may not need such a long time by courier service. However, when it reached Malaysia,it was detained by custom because by law any imported telecommunication products to Malaysia should have SIRIM approval. So I have to apply a special approval there to let the custom release my cell phone.

Turning to the topic.I like this phone very much after using it for several hours. It’s so powerful that anything you want to do on the move, you could do in this capable Android phone.

Google Nexus One VS Nokia 5800XM The hardest thing to me is to set up MMS and GPRS/EDGE/3G connection in the cell phone as there is no automatic configuration from DiGi.Frankly speaking, till now I yet don’t know how I solved the issue. :P

Nexus One has 1Ghz Snapdragon CPU inside.I feel it could be also treated as a super-portable computer. The Android market has around 10,000 apps there and the number is increasing dramatically.

For me,I now hope that ‘Turn-by-Turn Navigation’ in Google Maps could be worked in non-US countries as soon as possible.

Well,I have to take more days to learn how to play it ,not being played by the phone. :)
