Facebook “Home” and HTC First

Yesterday Facebook held up an event for Android platform. Many people guessed that Mark Zuckerberg would release a Facebook phone and they were curious how would that phone differneciate with other smartphones. Now we know that Zuckerburger is not really building a Facebook phone with sort of Facebook OS,he’s making a phone with Facebook-centric app(launcher).

Facebook is cooperating with HTC to push out this middle range Android phone named HTC First, optimizing Facebook “Home” working on it seamlessly as the default launcher.Facebook chooses to make this happen in Android platform because that’s the one with open source and highly customizable compared to iOS and WP8.

The main concept of Facebook “Home” is to focus on social status which has been the most important part of life for people enjoying the connections with family and friends. When you unlock your phone, you will immediately get the latest Facebook status and respond to that by simple clicks.

Will your Android phone have Gingerbread soon?

Congratulations!Android has been No.1 mobile OS in European market recently and the group of Android users are still growing fast.A survey shows that most Android phones in the market are running Android 2.2(a.k.a Froyo),but as Android 2.3(a.k.a Gingerbread) has been officially released at the end of last year,we could imagine that some existing Android phones will have a chance to upgrade to the latest version.Google’s own Android phone-Nexus One(which I’m using) has got OTA several months ago.As what I heard, some other phones will have OTA in the coming months.

CNet Asia gathered some useful information to show when some Android phones could get that upgrade.I have made the picture much cleared:

Android 2.3 enhances the performance and power efficiency,so it’s really worth to upgrade it.

Is your phone in that list?I hope it is.

Android 2.0 is on the stage

Google walks like running.I feel that I can’t catch that step forever because when I’m still dreaming for an Android phone, the next generation has come out.

Android 2.0 improves a lot on performance and tries to make a much friendly smart phone system with the feedback from the existing Android phone users. The main points are:

  • Support Bluetooth 2.1,Object Push Profile and Phone Book Access Profile.
  • Support MS exchange
  • Effective SMS management
  • Enhanced shooting experience
  • Better designed virtual keypad
  • Convenient Internet browser
  • More functions in calendar
  • Support different sizes of screens
  • Google Maps Navigation

I like the last point mostly.Currently almost all navigation software need to buy the license first to activate the service.Google just gives the best free navigation service for Android 2.0 users.I hope it could be applicable to Symbian OS soon.

The official video tells more than what I know:

And this time,Motorola finally works hard and gets some honor. The first Android 2.0 phone has born and it was named Motorola DROID,nevertheless it has a bit shadow of HTC Touch HD.

HTC Touch Cruise

I admit it’s no end if we’re chasing technology.Innovation is the main concept of HTC and it always deploy new mobile phones with outstanding gadgets. However this time I’m focusing on a redesigned product-HTC Touch Cruise.

HTC Touch CruiseI like this sort of solid surface, but that’s not all. This semi-new phone introduces new functions called HTC Footprints. So this phone will not only be a simple navigator,it could help you easily record the instants from point A to point B to make up your life with details.

HTC Touch Cruise highlightsThe overall is quite nice, but not the price.I heard that it will be sold at RM2199(USD590) in Malaysia as HTC’s style-‘high-key’.For me,it could only be in my waiting list and that should be a very long waiting.
