Unifi is finally installed

After 4 weeks waiting, today TM finally sent 2 installation teams to my house to do the job-one team was concerned on outdoor cable connection, another team was concerned on indoor network setup.

I live in a low rise apartment so that FTTH is the way of installation, not VDSL.The total installation took about 2 hours and all went quite smoothly. Now I can enjoy 10Mbps download/upload speed(Unifi VIP10) simultaneously and watch clear TV content.

Astro B.yond IPTV

Now more gamers join into the battle of broadband in Malaysia. This time,TIME,the fibre optics Internet service provider, cooperates with Astro,the satellite-based broadcasting service provider to launch Astro B.yond IPTV in some selected area. This is the service bundled with Astro+HD+PVR+VOD+Broadband.

They have several packages to choose:

I think it’s really attractive as Astro has rich contents of TV programmes and the price is actually almost the same with TM HSBB.However, the availability of this service is still very limited.

You can also check the availability in this page.

Not like TM or Maxis that bring all information out loudly,Astro is doing it quite secretly now.Maybe they are not well prepared?Or they are still doing it like trial?Who knows! :)

TM Said HSBB will come out on March 24

Several days ago,TM held a press conference and over there it claimed that High Speed Broandband(HSBB) will release to the public on March 24 at Dataran Merdeka.Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Najib Tun Razak will join in the event and officially launch the National Broadband initiative, which HSBB is the flagship project.    -Sourced by Bernama

I think that will be impressive as the new HSBB will run at least 3 times faster than the current fastest plan to the consumers.TM also promised that this time the plans will not be as expensive as the existing plans.

I know that some people living in Subang Jaya,Shah Alam,Taman Tun and TTDI have already been selected as beta users to try out the service and based on some leaking news, the result is quite good.

The known information shows that the plans will include some value added services, such as IPTV.Well,I’m very interested in the new service.I hope the service could reach my living area as soon as possible.Meanwhile,I welcome the HSBB users to leave some feedback here. :)

Malaysian Broadband

Today I read from TheStar that Information, Communications, Culture and Arts Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim directs the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission(MCMC) to investigate why the cost on IT service is high.

I feel curious that the high price on IT service(on broadband services) has exists for more than 8 years and now the government just mentioned the issue. For example, the high end broadband service for home-Streamyx 4M combo will cost people RM160(US$48) monthly, but it only provides 4Mbps for downlink and 512Kbps for uplink. All right,we won’t go far.We only pick up our neighbor-Singapore’s broadband services as the references.

 SingtelStarhub
Downlink:15Mbps8Mbps
Uplink:1Mbps768Kbps
Monthly fee:S$59.90(RM149/US$44)S$59.92(RM150/US$44)
Remarks:Free IPTV and movie channel for 12 monthsboost up to 100Mbps on partner’s sites

I pay at almost equivalent amount, but get only 1/4 speed.I hope the Malaysian government could know why soon and take quick actions to eliminate it.Well,I don’t bet on it much.

Hypp.TV

Hypp.TV is a local IPTV service which is led by TM Net,the largest Internet service provider(ISP) in Malaysia.I registered it to have a try several days ago as I thought with years’ research and development,IPTV should be mature and stable. However, the fact is not so encouraging.

LOW DEFINITION OF CONTENTS

HyppTV screenshotYou could see that the whole screen was displaying hazily.I’m using Streamyx 2M service and there’s no intermittent of buffering during watching, but blur all the time. It’s low quality(definition) contents.

LIMITED RESOURCES

HyppTV package(1)

Total 29 channels are provided in Hypp.TV and it will cost only RM9.90 monthly.Well, that seems not like a huge expense. However,at least for me,I don’t think it’s worth to pay.

Basically,I can’t get any local channels in Hypp.TV.Regarding to this instant,it’s even worse than traditional TV(it’s free!).

Secondly, most channels there are boring. For my need,I want to get CNN to know the world,TVB to enjoy Hong Kong Drama etc.Unfortunately,it’s still an extravagant hopes till now.

Thus,if Hypp.TV continues this kind of lousy services,I will have no doubt to terminate it.I don’t want to waste my money on a no-value stuff.

TM,you should grow faster and be smarter.
