I bought Windows 7 Home Premium

I went to Lowyat Plaza buying a piece of Windows 7 Home Premium(32bit+64bit DVD) at RM469 yesterday. As I’m going to buy a new computer in the near month,so I need to have one more copy of Windows to install on that PC.

Windows 7 Home Premium

RM469 is still a promotional price and the official retail price is RM525.I installed this brand new operating system into my 4-year-old Lenovo laptop. It took approximately 30 minutes from reassigning the hard disk to completing the installation.Window 7 can recognize most drivers for the hardware,so it saved quite a lot of time on this part.

The only issue I met is for the audio driver. The Windows driver can make it work and so I spent several hours to look for a latest driver which is compatible to Windows 7.However,I was not so lucky. After all,I decided to use Vista driver and manually installed it and it worked half of the function-I could get sounds from speakers, but my internal microphone didn’t work.

Anyway,Windows 7 is really faster a lot than Windows Vista and better on arranging the resources too.Now I’m going to solve the microphone problem.I wish I could work it out.Or anyone wanna help me? :)

Gmail is more than 4G

Just now I logged into the web-based Gmail and suddenly I found that my email box was more than 4Gbytes space.(I remember I bought a computer about 10 years ago and at that time the harddisk was only having 4.3Gbytes.)

size of my gmail

I think that is a milestone.Look back to several years ago when we used to have a free email box, there was almost provided hundred megabytes spaces and sometimes the service was not stable too.I started to use Gmail about 2 years ago.It was hard to get it because we need to get invitation from other Gmail users to register for a new account.Just that time I had my first email box which was labelled with gigabytes though some other providers were going up soon, such as Yahoo! mail.

I know that some service interruptions occurred during the past 2 years, but I still feel that Gmail is a relaible email box as I never ever meet any big issue from it-no complains at all.

So now I’m waiting for 10Gbytes or 100Gbytes coming. If it really happens in the near future, could we forget about the harddisk or pendrive?Of course,we have to get an improved Streamyx first in order to achieve a stable connection to such online spaces(websites).

By the way,thanks Google.

Took a lesson again

Yesterday I read a lot of articles about IT and I found that Ubuntu is more and more popular nowadays.

Since my interest on it was coming,I got a try to install ‘dual system’ in my PC-Windows XP+Ubuntu 7.04.I had referred tons of articles of the common issues before I started to install it.

It gave me a shock first when I redivided drivers-some unallocated spaces can not be used to form a new partition.I tried my best to figure out the problem without creating issues, but the fact was the worse.I did wrongly procedures so that I deleted one of my existing driver. My god,my pictures and documents are stored there. That was a big loss to me.

But I did the half way so I have to continue my work.Luckily, the following procedures were likely to be smooth and with around 30 mins auto-installation,the whole setup had been completed.I just waited it restarting and wish to see the ‘welcome windows’,but that made me sad again. Some errors were occured which led to fail in restarting and even can’t choose OS.

Damn it.After this grief ,I have to face the facts. So today morning,I reinstall windows and those necessary components again. From the things,I know that backup is very important and Ubuntu is not so easy to use for me till now.On the other hand,it’s jeering on my lacking skills.Perhaps I need to take more time to learn more about it and then start my hands to do it.
