Nokia Booklet 3G

Ok,you have to mention it first that it is not a mobile phone. In fact,it’s a mini laptop.

Nokia Booklet 3GSince last year,Nokia started to face the strong competitions on the smart phones from Google Android(G1,G2…) as well as HTC(Magic…) and even Dell now is moving into this field.I think this may push Nokia to move into a potential market and of course the mini laptop/netbook market is really a good one.

More details will be come out on September 2nd,2009 in Nokia World 09.I’m waiting to know the best part of it comparing to other branded mini laptops.

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

Yes,it’s finally in my hand.I have to thank my dear as this cellphone actually is a bonus gift from her company to her and she then contributes it to me. :D

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is the first touch screen multimedia mobile phone from Nokia.

The 3.2” large and clear screen, the amazing sound effect and the good response of touch are all the pros from my 5-hour testing.

With the package,Nokia gives out a 8Gb memory card and a gift card of downloading 1000 songs in selected website.I think Nokia is really quite gentle this time, right? :P

In the past hours,I just updated the firmware into V30.0.011 and updated Nokia Maps 2.0 to Ovi Maps 3.0,installed mobile MSN and did some trials on other functions.

I will keep updating here in the coming few days.Stay tuned!

Nokia Ovi Store

Following the steps of Apple and BlackBerry,Nokia finally opened its online apps store yesterday-Ovi Store.

Ovi Store

Nokia intends to integrate all applications and gadgets into this platform and to do some localizations for customers from different countries. However, when I visited the website yesterday,it loaded very slow perhaps because of a rapid high consumption.

Well,I think if Nokia seriously continues to improve this service,it will be much more successful than Apple Store because till now Nokia is still holding the largest group of users all over the world.

Will Nokia win this battle?Let’s wait and see.

Nokia and Skype are shaking hands

Nowadays mobile phone becomes smarter and smarter.Frankly speaking,I think mobile phone will not simply be a tool to make calls anymore,it will be a powerful mobile platform instead of laptop very soon.Mobile phone has dozens of roles such as taking a picture,GPS positioning and playing music etc.And currently Skype joins the game with Nokia.

Both companies claimed several days ago that Skype would be integrated into high-end Nokia phones, the first product is Nokia N97.

Through this strategy,Nokia users will be able to send sms and transfer files by Skype easily.Of course, after collecting feedbacks from the users, more useful functions are going to be developed too. Thus,no doubt that more downloadable versions of Skype are coming soon.

In the future, mobile phone will not be “mobile phone”.So what will be their future name? :P

3G in China

In the beginning of Year 2009,China government released three 3G licenses to main mobile operators-China Mobile,China Unicom and China Telecom.

The battles among the main mobile operators

China Unicom will give out its 3G network with WCDMA technology which is a mature and popular technology widely used in Europe.Nokia,Sony Ericsson and Samsung have a very entire production line and so many Chinese people could get WCDMA cell phones in local shops. Thus,China Unicom has quite a number of potential users and that is a very good advantage.Except that,I think WCDMA cell phones will have most choices in the market and this will attract a lot of youngsters. Therefore,China Unicom surely has no excuse to lose this battle.

China Telecom is a new guy in mobile communication industry. It’s got the property of CDMA network from China Unicom and so the 3G network(CDMA2000) will upgrade from it.The technology is adopted in Japan,Korea and USA.Lesser mobile phone manufactories make it lesser competitive to WCDMA network. However, not like others buying and setting up new devices,China Telecom will only need to upgrade its current network so that it will be quite economical and could expand its network much faster. Therefore,China Telecom will stay in between the battle and get a balance most probably.

China Mobile, finally, can’t be so optimistic. It uses China-local-developed TD-SCDMA technology.Till now,I still heard it is not as stable as those two I mentioned just now.Unfortunately, there’s no foreign mobile giant jumping into the product market yet. This bad situation will certainly reduce the buying demands from consumers because of lack of choices of products. Some more,if the network really doesn’t perform well, that will be a dead end in the battle. Then it will lose the position of leadership in current market too.

The three operators will totally spend RMB 40 billion of investments (US$5.88 billion) in 3 years.China Mobile will send out a bill of RMB 5.88 billion(US$ 0.86 billion) before the end of this year in order to build up 60,000 base stations with 70% coverage of main cities over the country whereas China Unicom and China Telecom will spend RMB 3 billion(US$ 0.44 billion) each to run their 3G networks.

Of course, all things are quite hard to predict and here a right strategy will turn the winning rates among the three gamers.Only one thing known is that the battle will be extremely drastic.

I’m looking forward to seeing a wonderful competition in the near future.
