[CONFIRMED]Microsoft is on the way to eat Skype

Frankly speaking, when I first time heard this news,I thought this is a joke.I mean how hard you could link a software giant special in OS and word processing software with a VOIP solution company. After I dig deeper,I find that’s possible as Microsoft has Windows Live Messenger which could count in the same field.Currently, some sources now have claimed that Microsoft had offered a price between US8-9 billion to acquire Skype.

I like Skype very much as I always use it contacting with friends and family far away from me.It could provide a clear voice and video communication with their unique compressing technology,it even could work quite fine in a low bandwidth environment when other chatting tools are failed.

Skype currently could earn US600 million yearly and most of the income source is company customer. The competition never stops in this area.Google has Google voice and Google Talk and just introduced video chatting recently;Rumour from Facebook said Facebook is researching on adding voice chat function in the website;a lot of apps now are supporting video chatting on iOS/Android devices.

I think Microsoft wants to get Skype to integrate with its Windows Live Messenger to enhance the experience on voice/video chatting as well as making it an income generator.Who knows?Just wait Microsoft to come out to clarify all.

[UPDATE]

No more rumours,Microsoft has confirmed to buy Skype at US8.5billion.

Skype 4.1 beta

Of course,as a popular communication tool,Skype will never forget to refine the audio and video call quality and to do bug fixes as well as accessibility improvements to meet the demand of the public.

Nokia and Skype are shaking hands

Nowadays mobile phone becomes smarter and smarter.Frankly speaking,I think mobile phone will not simply be a tool to make calls anymore,it will be a powerful mobile platform instead of laptop very soon.Mobile phone has dozens of roles such as taking a picture,GPS positioning and playing music etc.And currently Skype joins the game with Nokia.

Both companies claimed several days ago that Skype would be integrated into high-end Nokia phones, the first product is Nokia N97.

Nokia N97 integrated with Skype

Through this strategy,Nokia users will be able to send sms and transfer files by Skype easily.Of course, after collecting feedbacks from the users, more useful functions are going to be developed too. Thus,no doubt that more downloadable versions of Skype are coming soon.

In the future, mobile phone will not be “mobile phone”.So what will be their future name?

Skype 4.0 is here

After several months of testing,Skype 4.0 is open to public now.Enhancements and improvements are done in this version and so it could be better than ever:

  • Improved video calling – With the changes we’ve made, video calling in Skype 4.0 for Windows is the next best thing to being there. A new built-in bandwidth manager ensures that you have the very best video calling experience possible, even on a low bandwidth connection. If you have a fast enough connection (recommended 400 Kb/s or higher) and a high quality webcam, Skype delivers up to 30-frames-per-second High Quality Video at full screen.
  • Calls and instant messages are easier to manage – video and voice calls, as well as instant messaging, are all easy to reach in a single window. The new Conversations tab makes it easy to hold multiple conversations at once, and to switch quickly between video and voice calls, instant messages and SMS. This is particularly beneficial for the power users among you.
  • Call quality is substantially improved thanks to a number of under-the-hood changes. Calls sound richer and clearer than ever thanks to support for Super Wideband Audio with compatible hardware. The bandwidth manager should ensure that you have crystal clear calls even when bandwidth is low.

Download it here and you will start to feel a new experience of online conversions.I  prefer to use Skype to have voice or video chat as it always provides high quality of service.I feel no regret, how about you?

Skype 3.8 and more

Skype 3.8 officially released currently and it improves all about sound quality:less background noises, fewer dropped calls and less delay. From my experience,Skype always provides good voice chat function which is better than any others. And now it gets a further move on this field and I believe that it should maintain the seat amongst all IMs.

Skype

Another function is introduced together with the new Skype-subscriptions with unlimited calls to landlines in selected countries. In fact there are two subscriptions here-Unlimited country and Unlimited world. The former means you can use Skype to make calls to an indicated country with unlimited, where the latter one allows you use Skype to make calls to 32 countries with unlimited. The price is EURO3.95/month and EURO8.95/month each. But if you sign for 3 or 12 month before June 1 2008,you can enjoy a 33% off.

I think that will be more suitable to the people who always likes to make calls online to others. And if you have friends or families abroad and you want to call them quite often, this subscription will be good for you.Of course, doing some business can use this feather too.
