ADSL modulation

I think I’m a completist as I always seek for a better result with no end.Is that good or bad?I don’t know.

Well, recently I’m looking for the way to make my broadband more stable(be a completist again?!).I found that different ADSL modulation shows different figures on SNR margin and line attenuation. With my further investigation,I got that my line works very stable at *G.DMT mode while DSLAM device could support up to ADSL2+.Actually the conclusion is given out by comparing the SNR margin(ratio):G.DMT mode,SNR margin=20-20.5db(very slight fluctuating);ADSL2+,SNR margin=17.5-22.5db(very frequent fluctuating).

ADSL status

So I confuse why the old technology can perform better than the the new one.Anybody has the answer? :)

(*Remark:G.DMT is considered as the 1st generation ADSL technology and ADSL2+ is the latest one.)

Made a complaint to TM Net customer service(5)

It should be a nice day. After facing thousands of times of disconnections, the line comes into stable and performing well since 10am today.

I have used the connection for 2 hours. It runs softly and achieves the performance indicators regarding to speed(2M) and SNR(21db).If it keeps working well,I will call to TM Net customer service tomorrow to close up the report and ask for a rebate for the faulty period. Please bless me! :D

Made a complaint to TM Net customer service(1)

In recent several weeks,I always met frequent disconnections and there seems to have no improvements at all.So I decided to make a complaint to TM Net customer service yesterday.I called them in the afternoon.Luckily I just waited for minutes until they picked up my call. After troubleshooting procedures, the staff helped me lodge a report and told me that normally the technician will do their work in the coming 2 working days.

Today, starting from 3 pm,my connection was extremely bad and sometimes even can’t get any signal(DSL light was blinking).I guessed the technician was checking my line.So I just left it alone. At 8pm,I received a call from technical department asking me whether my connection was improved.I replied a big ‘NO’ because I can’t get any connection at all. After all official wordings, the staff promised me that she would follow up the case and arrange a technician to check the wiring as soon as possible.

At 9 pm,I could get connection finally. So I entered the modem control panel there and want to figure out whether the working line was under good quality.

linksys modem screenshotI’m now using Streamyx 2M combo and it was quite sensitive on the quality of DSL connection. You can see that Downstream Margin(SNR) is so low.I think that’s the reason why my line always disconnected.I know many factors could affect it,such as long distances between the house and DSLAM,bad quality of copper telephone line, faulty on DSLAM port and et cetera. My place is 2.75KM away from the neatest DSLAM,thus Downstream Line Attenuation is 45db which might be quite high.To set up a new DSLAM near my area is the best solution. However,I don’t think they will do it just for a single customer.

Therefore,I still need to wait them find out some other effective solutions to rescue me out of this marsh.
