My focus

Two stuff are in my list of focusing now.

  • When will Maxis be relisted in Bursa Malaysia?I’m interested in making some investments there and willing to gain some gold from it.
  • When will I get Streamyx upgrade to 4Mbps?I don’t think I should be so hard to get that upgrade.However,the fact is it costs a lot of my time till now and nothing happened.
  • When will the people in Padang,Indonesia get recovery both physically and mentally?

I just wish every could be fine.

D-link DSL2542B

I just bought a new ADSL2+ modem today-D-link DSL2542B.

My ADSL line(Streamyx) quality is not good because of the bad copper connecting between the cabinet and DSLAM.Thus,the free modem given by TM-Billion 5112S can’t get a stable connection always.I googled a lot to dig out how to get a low line attenuation and high SNR margin to achieve a much steady online experience and I found that the modems which are built with Broadcom chipset normally could gain a good result on a bad condition.That’s the reason why I choose this modem.

I have to say that it does work well at current condition.Here’s the ADSL information from the modem:

D-link modem status The downstream SNR margin shows consistently at 28-29db whereas the downstream line attenuation becomes at 43.5db,slightly lower than before.

The TM technician who I’m familiar with is still looking for a way to let me have a better line attenuation in order to fulfill the requirements applying to upgrade to 4Mbps.I wish that will be a way indeed.

Through doing the settings and testing,I met some questions and didn’t solve yet.

  • I can’t get it work once I set this modem at bridge mode connecting with Linksys WRT54GL router.
  • It seems like only auto connection could be done in the modem.I can’t manually connect or disconnect one session.

Anybody has solutions?

It’s said to be recovered

TM Streamyx gave out an announcement saying that the service disruption due to the breakdown of Segment 7 of the Asia Pacific Cable Network 2 (APCN2) undersea cable network between China and Taiwan have now been fully completed.

TM has already recovered 100% bandwidth capacity for its Internet traffic to the U.S and Northern Asia to-date. TM Internet and IP services as well as other critical business applications linked to the US and Northern Asia has resumed normal operations since Thursday, 10 September 2009. Therefore, all international links have been fully restored and our services have resumed back to normal.

We would like to thank our customers for their patience during the affected period. Customers can call TM at 100 and select “Internet Services” or e-mail us at [email protected] for any Internet related problems.

However,as a user,I could feel only a bit improvements on the said connectivity.TM really needs to put some more money to have more capacities and enhancements for users.

Fail to get upgraded

After a bulk of complaints and interactions with TM,an installer came to my house in this morning and checked up the line in order to upgrade my plan to Streamyx 4M Combo.However,the result was quite bad and he told me that I can’t get upgraded service because the quality of my line was below the basic requirements.He issued the service acceptance form to me,ending my dream to have 4Mbps service.service acceptance form

The installer rejected to upgrade my plan because he must follow the rules set by TM.According to the information in the form,the line should have attenuation figure lower than 40db and SNR margin higher than 15db.As a contracted person,he told me he would lose his job if he breaks the rule to make an installation in my case.

I know that high line attenuation will cause the unstable connectivity of my ADSL service.However,I think I could accept that if the disconnection won’t be too frequent and I want him to do an upgrade for me temporarily,just trying for some days.The thing is I even can’t get any chance to TRY it at all.

I could understand that TM wants to maintain a good service quality so that the basic requirements for High Speed Internet come out.But the figures are not the exact all.For example,I could change to another modem to show a different figure on Line attenuation.

Having this kind of issues,TM has responsibility to solve it too.The faulty of equipment/wring is always the main reason.I can’t accept that I’m willing to pay the service,but I can’t enjoy it only because of that figure.

I had forwarded this post to TM customer service and MCMC.I’m willing to tell those people that when they are ready to introduce HSBB in some high-end area,could they care of other people too?The gap between rich and poor has been a big issue and hard to be controllable.I don’t want to see there is another gap called ‘Digital Divide’ happening in Malaysia.

Just take some minutes to think about it,guys!

My broadband service issue resolved

I made a report to TM Net and MCMC regarding to slow connection issue in May 18,2009.After several days,I received the reply from MCMC.

Complaint Num : 03XX/XX/XX

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for writing to Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM). Your complaint has reached Consumer Complaints Bureau of the SKMM.

Please be informed that we are looking into this matter.

Should you have any other enquiry, please do not hesitate to email to us or contact our complaint hotline number at 1800 888 030 (Mon-Fri 8.30am To 5.30pm).

It seems like a common generated email,right?As I had done what I could do,I have to wait them for further investigation.

Three days later,I received the call from TM Net customer service rapid response team to comfort me and told me that they would do the work for me immediately and then called me again on the next day.I was so sad that I never got any call on that day from TM Net.

Well,keeping on waiting is the only option.Until May 26,2009,I felt that I can’t wait anymore.Thus,I wrote another email to MCMC and got the reply as follows:

Just hours later,a technician from TM Net called me that he would come to my house to check the connection.Although I’m not a IT person,I have enough knowledge on this kind of issues.I directly told the technician that it was some fault on TM server(port) there,but the technician insisted on having a site check first.

He did what I had done such as ping time,tracert,speed test etc.After all,he told me that he thought the issue came from there server and he would go there to reset a port to me.

Within one hour of changing to a new port,my issue was resolved and I could get the speed what I suppose to get-2Mbps.

That means if TM,at first,investigated its server there,it wasn’t necessary for me to wait for weeks.

Yesterday I received a call from TM Net customer server rapid response team again.The girl confirmed whether the issue had been resolved and informed me that she would arrange a rebate for me.

Today I just received a confirmation of rebate telling that I could get an amount of RM128 as a rebate for unexpected level of efficiency and it will be automatically reflected in my following TM bill.

The thing is ended here.However,I still wonder when TM Net will provide a more efficient service and a better helpdesk.

Does it work?

I’m so depressed on my terrible Streamyx service.I had lodge several reports for the slow connection issue and I didn’t see any improvement at all.So yesterday night,I wrote a complaint letter indicating my bad experience with Streamyx to Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and forward to TM as following:

Dear Sir/Madam,
I had reported for a slow international connection 2 weeks ago.At that time,I could get the full speed which I’d subscribed for by visiting local server.Regarding to this issue,I had made a report with TM Net with a report number:X-XXXXXXXXX.

However,after one week of that issue,I started to have slow local connection as well.From that date on,I could only get the speed of downlink around 1.4Mbps which is less than 70% of my subscribed plan-2Mbps.Regarding to this issue,I made a report on last week and got another report number:X-XXXXXXXXX.

Now I have to pay for RM140 monthly for the service I couldn’t fully utilized and the worst thing is I even don’t know when both issues could be resolved.It seems to be endless.

 
I just attached the speed test results here as further evidence.I do want to see the improvements as soon as possible.Thanks.

Now I’m waiting for the reply from both sides.I have to admit that it’s the last action I could do.If it doesn’t work,I only could say this is the absolute Malaysian style.
