Closer look at Apple WWDC

It happened last night.I’m sure that many Apple fans and tech gurus were watching the live updates from some famous IT websites.In case that you haven’t known what they disclosed in this event,just share with you guys the latest updates.

Hardware upgrades are the main part of this Apple event,another two are OSX and iOS.

1.MacBook

Apple released an upgraded line of MacBook products.Both MacBook and MacBook Air are upgraded to the latest Intel Ivy Bridge processor,capable to USB 3.0,up to 512GB SSD. Besides this,Apple also released a new generation of MacBook Air which fits the most of rumors-15.4 inch display with 2880*1800(retina display),Kepler GT650M video card,up to 768GB SSD,2 USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt ports,7-hour battery time with lighter weight and slimmer body.

Apple has started to delivered the new products from today.

2.OSX Mountain Lion

  • Reminders and Messages will be integrated with iCloud
  • Alerts service
  • Dictation-a kind of voice input and control function,but not the same as Siri
  • New Safari-combined URL and search bar;sync history and bookmarks between devices
  • Auto update and Sync in Saving mode;Auto backup when charging
  • Game Center
  • Dedicated to China market:New language inputs,new dictionary,8 new fonts,support Baidu,Tudou,Youku and popular SNS websites
  • This new version of OSX-Mountain Lion will be released in next month at US$19.99,the existing users of Snow Leopard and other latter versions could upgrade to the latest one.

3.iOS 6

It’s said to have more than 200 new features in iOS 6.The key points for me are:

  • New Apple Maps with details of traffic,accident etc;3D map and show the estimated arrival time depending on the real traffic info;Siri functional
  • Siri will have more enhanced search ability;supports more languages including Mandarin and Cantonese;It will work on new iPad
  • Facebook integration
  • Facetime by cellular network
  • Safari will support offline reading;add full screen option when portrait handling
  • New app:Passbook-integrates all digital IDs together
  • Customized to China market :Tudou,Youku,Sina Weibo etc
  • Do-Not-Disturb setting
  • The new iOS will be available in the coming fall.

Update to WordPress 3.1.3 & more

WordPress 3.1.3 is just a security update for the previous versions.The Security fixes and enhancements are:

  • Various security hardening by Alexander Concha.
  • Taxonomy query hardening by John Lamansky.
  • Prevent sniffing out user names of non-authors by using canonical redirects. Props Verónica Valeros.
  • Media security fixes by Richard Lundeen of Microsoft, Jesse Ou of Microsoft, and Microsoft Vulnerability Research.
  • Improves file upload security on hosts with dangerous security settings.
  • Cleans up old WordPress import files if the import does not finish.
  • Introduce “clickjacking” protection in modern browsers on admin and login pages.

More details can be found here.Most existing users could get updated automatically,or you also could choose to manually download and then install it by yourselves.

Well,it’s not the only update for the day.WordPress 3.2 released its latest update-beta 2.Be aware that it’s a beta version of WordPress and so it’d better to test on a non-production website as it may be working not stably at all.

New version includes some changes since beta 1:

  • Google Chrome Frame is now supported in the admin, if you have it installed. This is especially useful for IE 6 users (remember, IE 6 is otherwise deprecated for the admin).
  • The admin is less ugly in IE 7.
  • The blue admin color scheme has caught up to the grey one, and is ready for testing.
  • We are now bundling jQuery 1.6.1. You should test any JS that uses jQuery. WordPress JavaScript guru Andrew Ozz has a post with more info.

It’s announced that WordPress 3.2 should be officially announced by the end of this month if all results from beta testers show good.I wish it could be on the right track.Eventually I wish to see the improvements on loading the control panel and editors as currently they’re still running a bit slow.

 

[Update]Unveiled Windows Phone ‘Mango’ with live demo

Microsoft started to sell its latest phone products 7 months ago and now it pushes out a huge update for them,The code name is ‘Mango’.It’s said to have more than 500 improvements and new features and promised to provide much better user experience than ever.

There are 3 major points in this new update:

  • Communications: Easier to Connect and Share
  • A Smarter Approach to Apps
  • Taking the Internet Beyond the Browser

White iPhone4 and iOS4.3.3

In Malaysia,DiGi is the first mobile service provider to announce white iPhone4 would be available in the market,even open to public to register for interest.However,it’s not the first one could have stocks to sell,Maxis wins this time!

Maxis remains the existing plans for white iPhone 4 too,so nothing special to share here.

Meanwhile,Apple announced last night that the latest iOS 4.3.3 is available to download.
