I bought Windows 7 Home Premium

I went to Lowyat Plaza buying a piece of Windows 7 Home Premium(32bit+64bit DVD) at RM469 yesterday. As I’m going to buy a new computer in the near month,so I need to have one more copy of Windows to install on that PC.

Windows 7 Home Premium

RM469 is still a promotional price and the official retail price is RM525.I installed this brand new operating system into my 4-year-old Lenovo laptop. It took approximately 30 minutes from reassigning the hard disk to completing the installation.Window 7 can recognize most drivers for the hardware,so it saved quite a lot of time on this part.

The only issue I met is for the audio driver. The Windows driver can make it work and so I spent several hours to look for a latest driver which is compatible to Windows 7.However,I was not so lucky. After all,I decided to use Vista driver and manually installed it and it worked half of the function-I could get sounds from speakers, but my internal microphone didn’t work.

Anyway,Windows 7 is really faster a lot than Windows Vista and better on arranging the resources too.Now I’m going to solve the microphone problem.I wish I could work it out.Or anyone wanna help me?

I heard the footsteps of Windows 7

The old rumor said that Windows 7 RTM(Release to Manufacturing) would come out on July 13th.Of course, this news had been dead because the date is past and we haven’t seen any Windows 7 RTM from any sources.

Recently from the Windows blog,Brandon LeBlanc told that the real RTM version of Windows 7 will be seen at the second half of this July and the final version(Release to public) will be on the shelf on October 22th,2009.

At the same time, the pre-order sales for Windows 7 in US,Europe and Japan hits a great record. That means a large number of people are looking forward to this new powerful product.

Frankly speaking,I’m willing to get it too as I like to scratch the fresh stuff and I want to escape from the troubles caused by Windows Vista asap.

Of course,I still need to wait here just like you guys.

You could reserve your cheap Windows 7 now

Microsoft has been providing some methods to pre-order Windows 7 at half-off prices, including Microsoft store.

Windows 7 half-off prices And from now on until October 22,2009-the date that Windows 7 will officially be released, the customers who buy Windows Vista could entitle to get the same class product of Windows 7 free of charges.

Hurry up!The chance is limited.

PS:Asian people need not buy it immediately as the past experience tells me that the retail price in Asia will be much cheaper than American/European market and some promotional event will be held too.

Windows 7 RC

Windows 7 RC is open to the public to download now.Windows 7 development team said that from beta to RC,more than 20 improvements have been done and thus, users could have much better experience on it.

RC(Release Candidate) version is always treated as a final version before the official release to the retail market. It’s the time to enhance the performance and eliminate some small bugs which did not figure out before, meanwhile, test the compatibilities with other software by a large group of volunteers(potential users).

Windows7 Are you ready to get it?I wish that will not be another Windows Vista.

Experience on Windows 7(1)

If you have installed Windows 7 and been running it in a computer which is running Windows Vista as well, you’ll exactly find that it works much faster than Windows Vista. Why?

Windows

You should know that the big problems of Windows Vista are the incompatibility with quite a number of software(well,a bit improvements in SP1) and the high requirement of specs. It avoids some purchasing demand of consumers because it may cost some inconvenience and a price to upgrade the system too.For most people, that is not a worth-to-do thing.Windows 7 is trying to erase this bad history and so make a much popular requirement instead.Let’s see the comparison of minimum recommended specs.

Windows Vista(Home Premium/Business/Ultimate):

Windows 7(Ultimate)

  • 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

  • 1 GB of system memory

  • 40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space

  • Support for DirectX 9 graphics with:

    • WDDM Driver

    • 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)

    • Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware

    • 32 bits per pixel

  • DVD-ROM drive

  • Audio Output

  • Internet access (fees may apply)

  • 1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor

  • 1 GB of system memory

  • 16 GB of available disk space

  • Support for DirectX 9 graphics with 128 MB memory (to enable the Aero theme)

  • DVD-R/W Drive

  • Internet access (to download the Beta and get updates)

And yes, like anything tech-related, these specs could change.

Though you may find the requirements are so similar, from my tests I feel that Windows 7 occupies less physical memory than Windows Vista when both of them are running with those beautiful Aero themes.I’ll post up the screenshots of the real usages later in order to make a detailed analysis.

All right,if you haven’t yet downloaded Windows 7 and had a try,you may refer to my previous step-by-step post and then enjoy it.I hope you will feel good on it.
